Writers Are the Narrators of History
Writers Are the Narrators of History

Housed in the historic Vernon House in beautiful Vernon Park, the Black Writers Museum features exhibits of classic and contemporary Black literature and its authors.
With over 6,000 books, magazines, journals, newspapers, and assorted publications, our collections provide an in-depth view of the Black experience in America and abroad. Rare and autographed books and documents, over 3,000 wax and taped recordings, and magazines, the BWM collection shares a bird’s eye view of the African American life of literary giants, national civil rights organizations, local community movements and groups, as well as smaller independent publications in print and recordings.

Community engagement is at the core of all BWM programming and activities. The youth, neighborhood associations, faith institutions, government, and private business are the driving forces that guide our mission.
The People’s Poetry and Jazz Festival in Germantown, Philadelphia, celebrates community, arts, and culture with live jazz, R&B, African dance, spoken word, and local vendors. Hosted by the Black Writers Museum, it’s a free, family-friendly event for all ages.
BWM is a program partner of the Urban Affairs Coalition, its fiscal sponsor. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law.
